About this Treatment

A FotoFacial is a popular non-invasive treatment that helps reduce brown and red spots due to damage from sun exposure, lifestyle factors, and the normal wear and tear of daily life. Patients who are tan or who have naturally darker skin tones may not be a the best candidate for this treatment. Schedule a consult today and let our aestheticians see if it’s the best treatment option for you.

Procedure

An IPL works by selective photothermolysis (SPTL). SPTL matches light wavelength to the targeted tissue (discolored areas) to obtain the desired treatment, while at the same time, minimizing any effects on the surrounding tissues. With each pulse of light, a high intensity of heat is penetrated into the targeted area below the skin’s surface. The heat further damages the targeted cells, which is the melanin (pigment) in the skin. This cause your skin to naturally repair the damage by sloughing off the damaged skin, leaving behind a more even skin tone.

What to expect/ how long will it take/ how many treatments will I need?

The procedure takes between 30 and 90 minutes depending on the size and area that is being treated.

Depending on the amount of damage and the patient’s desired outcome, a series of treatments is usually suggested to achieve optimal results.

Risks/ Side Effects

While some redness and swelling may occur, these should subside within 24 hours. It’s the ideal treatment with little to no downtime. Following the treatment areas may look as if there is little coffee grounds on the surface. These darker pigmented areas will sluff off within a week or so. Results are gradual and improvements to the skin will begin to appear in the days and weeks following treatment. It is VERY important to stay out of the sun following this treatment to avoid blistering and unwanted discoloration. Make up can be worn immediately following treatment.

Is it Painful?

Our laser has a special cooling device to deliver this treatment to patients with minimal pain. Patients may experience a mild stinging or a sensation much like the snapping of a rubber band. Depending on the amount of damage and the patient’s desired outcome, a series of treatments is usually suggested to achieve optimal results.

Covered by Insurance?
